NC Discount Propane is leaving Amerigas; you should, too.

We are thankful that our savings group has just completed our sixth winter & propane heating season, and we are pulling into the station on another successful cycle, saving our 600+ NC Discount Propane clients a lot of money and hardship on propane.
We've worked hard as a group of tank owners to gain better prices and service from propane companies, some of which have abused and gouged their customers terribly. While most of you had no issues, Amerigas has dropped the ball on many of our group members in a way we feel is intolerable.
Over 10% of our customers left our group when we negotiated a bulk contract with Amerigas in 2024 because their prior experiences with Amerigas were so horrible that they refused to allow them back on their property. Unfortunately, this is their "I told you so" moment. Amerigas customer feedback ratings are the lowest in the state, and even the Grok AI advises people to steer clear of them.
I have worked overtime to shield our customers from the many problems encountered with Amerigas, but at this time I do not feel we can shield you from what they are trying to do to us all.
Amerigas left many of our customers in a lurch, violating our agreement to deliver within two weeks and making many of you wait a month for deliveries. I believe they prioritized the tank owners calling in during the cold rush who were being charged $4+ a gallon and five fees over our savings group. When we agreed to do business with Amerigas, they told us this would not happen. It was a central requirement on our deal. They broke the deal.
Then they lied to us about the number of remaining gallons under our bulk contract and tried to trick us into signing a new, higher-priced, variable-rate contract just days before the bombs started falling, when in truth we had over 11,000+ gallons left!
Amerigas tried to scam us out of 11k gallons on our contract.
As tank owners, each of you can do business with any propane company you like, and we ask for your patience and continued business and support as we seek new propane companies to supply our 600+ NC Discount Propane customers.
Please keep an eye on your tank levels and call or email in new orders when going below 30%, and we will put you in the queue for deliveries under new contracts with other companies when those options become available.
We need to take some time on that because there is a huge spike in energy prices over the Iran conflict right now, and we need to wait for warmer weeks ahead after the warfare, and prices settle down (we hope).
If you must order from another company, or the backup company we recommend everyone has in place, we suggest you avoid Amerigas, Suburban, and Superior Propane.
These three companies received the most online complaints over the last few months and let the many of their customers run out of propane during the snowstorms and aftermath from the feedback we can see online. NC Discount Propane receives the most complaints from people who were doing business directly with Amerigas, Suburban, and Superior.
Amerigas may make an appeal for you to join them as their direct customer soon and even offer you some very low introductory rates. They may do this to try to knock NC Discount Propane out of business and out of the NC propane markets for good.
We highly recommend you do not award Amerigas with your business moving forward because 1. They just tried to pull the rug on your propane co-op and 2. You will eventually be unhappy with their "service" and prices.
After these very negative experiences, I feel that Amerigas is a company I want to help propane consumers move away from, not towards.
Let's all try to stick together as a unified group of propane tank owners who deserve better prices and service for our collective purchasing power.
Please let us know if you receive any direct offers from Amerigas or if there are any local propane companies you would recommend for our group and group members.
We are very thankful for each of you who helped us get this far. We have overcome big challenges like this before and prevailed.
Try to conserve your propane and stretch your gallons until new supply agreements are in place.
Thank you,
Bill
